to create a system and structure to meet the needs of the people and to keep order
Self-Determination
the right to people to affect their own lives
Rights
items that are guaranteed for the people to use; can not be taken away except without due process
liberties
privileges given to the people that can be taken away
what is the meaning of “form a more perfect union?
cooperating together; visionary idea of what “perfect union” is
what is the meaning of “establish justice”?
creating some type of order (rules/law); fairness (equal)
what is the meaning of “insure domestic tranquility”?
prevent war in the US; —-local peace; commonality shared—-
what is the meaning of “provide for the common defense”?
Army funding; making sure everyone is safe;organized military(fighting unit)
What is the meaning of “promote the general welfare”?
making sure everything that is done is for the good of the people

Authoritarian (Dictatorship)
individual or group has unlimited authority
come to power by force
usually violent
no restaint on power
examples: Hitler (Germany), Kim Jong-un (North Korea)
Socialist
Government owns some factors of production
Politics plays a role in operating the economy
spread of wealth among citzens
Examples: Cuba (Raul Castro) China (Xi Jinping) Venezuela (formally Chavez)
Theocracy
Rule by God
Governed by immediate divine guidance or officials who are regarded as divinely guided
law proclaimed by ruler is considered law of God
Examples: Iran
Tribal government
Governing body of one tribe
usually divided by geogrpahy, native language, religion, or culture
usually sovereign within countries
Example: Cherokee Nation, Afganistan
Republic
Formed when citzens select representatives to make laws and rules in their place
mostly democracies
Direct Democracy: will of the people is translated into public policy directly by the people
