A

He would not interfere with slavery where it already existed.

He would carry out the Constitution in all states, incuding those in the Confederacy.

Secession was not allowed. He would use force if he had to to preserve the Union.

A

The South had a right to secede from the Union. They did not want war, but they would fight if necessary.

What happened at Fort Sumter?

A

The Civil War began after Lincoln tried to resupply the fort with food and important supplies. Unmanned ships with no guns, but the South took it as an act of agression and began firing on Ft Sumter on April 20, 1860.
The Union surrendered the fort to the South the next day.

They were important to put some land between Washington, D.C. and the Confederacy.
They were important because a lot of manufacturing happened there to help supply troops.

A
