Q

Why did Britain, for example, not support the Confederacy after the Emancipation Proclamation?

A

They thought about it because the US was becoming powerful, and the south was an important trading partner. However, slavery was abolished in their country, and they morally couldnt support the South and slavery after the Emancipation Proclamation. It would have been seen as supporting slavery.
