Cisco intro Flashcards

1
Q

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) File Sharing

A

The user joins the P2P network by simply installing the P2P software. P2P file sharing has not been embraced by everyone.

Q

Pro’s of P2P

A

Easy to set up
Less complexity
Lower cost since network devices and dedicated servers may not be required
Can be used for simple tasks such as transferring files and sharing printers

Q

Con’s of P2P

A

No centralized administration
Not as secure
Not scalable
All devices may act as both clients and servers which can slow their performance

Q

End devices

A

An end device is either the source or destination of a message transmitted over the network, Like a tablet

Q

Intermediary Network Devices

A

Like a router or a switch connect the individual end devices to the network and can connect multiple individual networks to form an internetwork. These intermediary devices provide connectivity and ensure that data flows across the network.

They also regenerate and retransmit data signals
Notify other devices of errors and communication failures
Direct data along alternate pathways when there is a link failure
Classify and direct messages according to priorities
Permit or deny the flow of data, based on security settings

Q

Network Interface Card

A

A NIC, or LAN adapter, provides the physical connection to the network at the PC or other end device. The media that are connecting the PC to the networking device, plug directly into the NIC (Figure 2).

Q

Interface

A

Specialized ports on a networking device that connect to individual networks. Because routers are used to interconnect networks, the ports on a router are referred to as network interfaces.

Q

Multilayer Switch

A

Een meerlagige switch is een computernetwerkapparaat dat OSI-laag 2 inschakelt als een gewone netwerkswitch en extra functies biedt op hogere OSI-lagen.

Q

Topology diagram

A

A diagram provides of how devices in a large network are connected.

17
Q

Physical topology diagrams

A

Identify the physical location of intermediary devices and cable installation.

18
Q

Logical topology diagrams

A

Identify devices, ports, and addressing scheme.

19
Q

Metro Ethernet

A

high-speed business class copper or fiber connection

20
Q

SDSL

A
A symmetric digital subscriber line
business class service that provides the same upload and download speeds over telephone lines
21
Q

WISP

A

Wireless Internet Service Providers are typically found in rural areas where DSL or cable access is not available. A dish or antenna on the property of the subscriber connects wirelessly to a WISP transmitter, eliminating the need for physical cabling outside the building.

22
Q

Intranet

A

Connect LANs and WANs that should only be accessible by internal employees, whereas an extranet allows organizations to do business directly with other external organizations by allowing them access to part of the internal network.
