Cisco Chapter 1 Flashcards
What is a client?
Computers with software installed that enables them to request and display information obtained from a server.
What is a server?
Computers with software installed that enable them to provide info to other end devices.
What is P2P networking?
A form of network configuration where 2 or more computers connect directly to each other and act as both servers and clients simultaneously.
What are some advantages of P2P networking?
1 - Easy to set up. 2 - Less complexity. 3 - Lower cost (not setting up dedicated servers and network devices). 4 - Can be used for simple tasks such as sharing printers and transferring transferring.
Disadvantages of P2P networking
1 - No centralized database. 2 - Less secure. 3 - Not scalable. 4 - Potential reduced performance as devices may act as both clients and servers.
What is an end device/what does it do?
Provides an interface between the human and the network.
Intermediary devices:
Provide connectivity and ensure data flows across the network.
Network Media:
Provide a channel for messages to travel from source to destination.
Network Architecture:
The technologies that support the infrastructure and the programmed services and rules, or protocols, that move data across a network.
The network architecture refers to the devices, connections, and products that are integrated to support the necessary technologies and applications.
