What is an Intranet?
Private internal network only accessible to internal employees or people
What is an Extranet
Secure way to provide outside parties company only data required for their duties.
What is DSL
Digital Subscriber-lines; always on running over telephone lines.
Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical DSL
Asymmetrical: data download or upload rate are unequal - one is prioritized - normally download in SOHO environments.
Symmetrical: data download and upload rate are equal.
Dedicated lease lines
Lines within a service providers network connecting geographic locations
Public Cloud
Cloud-based applications and services are avaliable to the general public
Private clouds
Internal-Cloud built by the organization reserved for internal use only and limits external entry and strict security
Hybrid Cloud
Both private and public clouds with access based on the users rights
Community Cloud
WISP (Wireless internet Service Provider)
Wireless Broadband: similar to cellar connectivity, Connect subscribers in places DSL can reach (rural areas) using similar technology as WAP. Using An antenna to connect the house to the tower.
Kernel vs Shell
Kernel: Part of the OS that directly speaks with the hardware
Shell: where the user interacts with applications using a GUI or CLI
Switch Configurations: Console, SSH, Telnet
Console: physical connection, out-of-band access through dedicated management interface. Best for initial configuration and when unable to connect virtually
Switch Configurations: SSH & Telnet
SSH: In-band, remote established, secure CLI connection requiring active network service
Telnet: insecure in-band remote connection.
