A

Smallest particles in the blood.

When activated they will help clot blood to stop bleeding.

Q

What are red blood cells?

A

Most numerous type of cell in the blood.
Mature red blood cells have no nucleus.
Contain hemoglobin which carries O2 from lungs to other cells. It also carries CO2 from other cells to be exhaled.
Exchange of O2 and CO2 happens via diffusion.

Q

What are white blood cells?

A

Largest of all blood cells.
These help fight disease and infection.
They create antibodies to help fight future infections.

Q

What does blood do?

A

Blood circulates throughout the blood vessels to reach all areas of the body. It brings nutrients + O2 to all body cells and carries away wastes. All nutrients and wastes get dissolved in the blood.

Q

What does the left atrium do?

A

Receives blood from the lungs. This blood is high in O2 and low in CO2.

Q

What does the heart do?

A

The heart pumps blood so that it can circulate through the blood vessels to reach all cells in the body. It provides pressure to the system.

Q

What is the aorta?

A

Main artery in the human body. Under pressure from the heart. The left ventricle pumps blood to rest of body then through the aortic valve. It also picks up the waste products. Pumps nutrients and O2 to the rest of the body (like a delivery system)

Q

What is the blood cycle?

A

Whole cycle takes 20 seconds (Blood goes from right atrium to right ventricle to left atrium to left ventricle then pushed through the aortic valve to the aorta then through the body, then back to the heart)
