Circulatory System Flashcards
1
Q
Why do we have a circulatory system?
A
Transports blood
Carries oxygen, water, nutrients
Moves waste (CO2+Lactic acid)
2
Q
What is the circulatory system?
A
- 02 in the pulmonary vein from lungs to left atrium
- passes through bicuspid valve to left ventricle
- oxygenated blood enters the right atrium from the superior and inferior vena cava
- passes through the tricuspid value to right ventricle
- pulmonary artery transports deoxygenated blood to lungs
- *Gaseous exchange occurs, blood is oxygenated
3
Q
What are the 3 blood vessels?
A
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
4
Q
What do arteries do?
A
Carry deoxygenated blood AWAY from the heart (under HIGH pressure)
5
Q
What do veins do?
A
Carry oxygenated blood BACK TO the heart
6
Q
What do capillaries do?
A
Allow diffusion to occur, 02 and CO2 pass through them in gaseous exchange
7
Q
What is diastole?
A
Heart chambers relax and fill with blood
8
Q
What is systole?
A
Heart chambers contract and empty the blood
9
Q
Example of diastole and systole?
A
Cardiac cycle
