Circulatory System Flashcards
1
Q
circulatory system after birth
A
- lungs expand with air and rhythmic breathing begins
- resistance in pulmonary blood vessels decrease, causing an increase in blood flow through the lungs
- foramen ovale closes
- ductus arteriosus constricts and later closes permanently
- ductus venosus degenerates completely closing 3 months after birth
- begins to produce adult hemoglobin
- pressure in inferior vena cava and right atrium decreases
- pressure in left atrium increases
2
Q
arterial end of capillary bed
A
- hydrostatic pressure is greater than osmotic pressure
- fluid flows out of capillaries
3
Q
venule end of capillary bed
A
- osmotic pressure is greater than hydrostatic pressure
- fluid flows into the capillaries (osmosis)
4
Q
lymph nodes
A
- swelling along lymph vessels
- contain phagocytic cells (leukocytes) that filter the lymph, removing and destroying foreign particles and pathogens
5
Q
liver breaks down hemoglobin
A
uses the components to produced bile salts
6
Q
lymphatic fluid
A
absorbed fat and fat soluble vitamins
7
Q
hemoglobin
A
- found in red blood cells
- carries oxygen
- has a higher affinity for carbon monoxide
