Circulatory System Flashcards
what are the 4 chambers of the heart?
left and right atria
left and right ventricles
which side of the heart holds oxygenated blood?
left side
which side of the heart holds deoxygenated blood?
right side
which blood vessels take blood away from the heart?
arteries
which blood vessels return blood back to the heart?
veins
which specific blood vessel transports blood from the heart to the lungs?
pulmonary artery
which specific blood vessel transports blood from the lungs to the heart?
vena cava
what are erythrocytes?
red blood cells
what are leucocytes?
white blood cells
what are platelets?
portions of larger cells (thrombocytes)
helps with blood clotting
what is the pathway of blood?
1) deoxygenated blood enters the heart through the vena cava. oxygenated blood enters the heart through the pulmonary vein.
2) RV pumps DO blood to lungs through pulmonary artery, and left ventricle pumps O blood to rest of body through aorta
what is the only vein to carry oxygenated blood?
pulmonary vein
what is the only artery to carry deoxygenated blood?
pulmonary artery
what are the valves for within the heart?
stops blood flowing backwards by allowing it to only flow in one direction
