What are arteries?
Carry blood from heart to body tissues and organs
what are capillaries ?
They have thin walls and take waste product away from the tissues
What is the function of veins ?
Carry blood to the heart from all other body tissues and organs
Describe the heart
Has 4 chambers, 2 atriums which are located in top half of the heart and collect blood and 2 ventricles which are located in the bottom half of the heart and pump blood out of the heart.
Do humans have double or single circulatory system ?
Double circulatory system
What are valves?
Separate the atrium and ventricle
What are 4 main blood vessels entering and leaving the heart?
Vena cava, Pulmonary artery, Aorta, Pulmonary vein
What does vena cava do?
Brings in deoxygenated blood from the body
What does aorta do?
Oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart to the body in the aorta
Describe pattern of blood flow through the heart
First blood enters left atrium and right atrium the blood is then forced into the ventricles.
The ventricles now contract and force blood out of the heart.
Valves stop blood from flowing backwards into the atrium
Why does the left side of the heart have a thicker wall then the right side ?
The left ventricle pushes blood around the whole body but the right only pumps blood to the lungs.
What is the purpose of the coronary artery ?
Provides oxygen to muscle cells of the heart
What is pacemaker?
Keeps your heart beating regularly
What are function of red blood cells ?
transporting oxygen from your lungs to your body’s tissues
What are function of White blood cells ?
They help the body fight infection and other diseases
