Circulation Topic 1 Flashcards
What are the 3 main components of the circulatory system
Heart
Blood vessels
Blood
The …… circulation carries blood to and from the lungs
Pulmonary
The …… circulation carries blood to and from the rest of the body’s organs
Systemic
The pulmonary artery is the only artery to only carry what type of blood?
Deoxygenated
The pulmonary vein is the only vein to carry ……. Blood
Oxygenated
What do arteries do
Carry blood away from the heart
What do capillaries do
Carry blood through organs and tissues
What do veins do
Carry blood towards the heart
What type of pressure do arteries carry blood in
High pressure
What type of pressure do capillaries carry blood in
Low pressure
What type of pressure do veins carry blood in
A very low pressure
What blood vessel has valves
Veins
What type of walls do arteries have
Thick muscular walls
What type of wallas do capillaries have
Very thin walls (1cell thick)
What type of walls do veins have
Thinner walls with less muscle
What blood vessel has a pulse
Arteries
How is a pulse created
By the heart muscle pumping and contracting
Are Capillaries easily broken
Yes
Do arteries have strong walls
Yes
Why are veins flexible and squashed easily
Blood can be push further along the vessel
What artery and vein go into the lungs
Pulmonary vein and pulmonary artery
What 2 arteries go into the heart
Aorta
Coronary artery
What 2 veins go into the heart
Coronary vein
Vena cava
What artery and vein go into the liver
Hepatic vein
Hepatic artery
What vein and artery are in the lower body
Iliac artery and iliac vein
What artery and vein go into the head and brain
Carotid artery and the jugular vein
What vein and artery go into the kidneys
Renal artery an vein
What artery and 2 veins go into the stomach
Gastric artery
Hepatic portal vein and hepatic vein
What artery and 2 veins go into the small intestine
Mesenteric artery
Hepatic portal vein and hepatic vein
What is the heart covered in
Coronary arteries to provide oxygen and sugar
What happens in one heart beat
- blood enters the atria from the vein
-The atria contract - blood is forced into the ventricle through the valves
-the ventricles contract - blood is pushed upwards through the valves to the arteries
- blood exits the heart via and artery
What does the heart do
It pumps blood to every cell giving it sugar and oxygen so it they can carry out respiration
What happens to your heart when u get excited or exercise
Your heart beast faster because ur body needs blood pumped faster for all the cells to get enough oxygen and sugar for ur muscles to respire
