Circulation and Coronary Heart disease Flashcards
Arteries and Veins usually carry what type of blood?
Arteries - OXYGENATED blood
Veins - DEOXYGENATED blood
What artery carries DEOXYGENATED blood.
PULMONARY ARTERY
What vein carries OXYGENATED blood?
PULMONARY VEIN
What artey carries blood to the LIVER?

What artery carries blood to the KIDNEYS?
RENAL ARTERY
What vein carries blood from the GUT to the LIVER?
HEPATIC PORTA:L VEIN
What is CORONARY HEART DISEASE?
It’s when the coronary arteries that supple blood to the heart muscle get blocked by layers of fatty material.
When fatty material builds up in the artery what does it cause?
It causes the arteries to NARROW, so blood flow is restricted and there’s a lack of oxygen to the heart muscle -this can lead to a heart attack.
What is a RISK FACTOR?
Risk factors are things that increase the likelihood that a person will develop a certain disease during their lifetime.
Name 3 risk factors for heart disease.
- a diet high in SATURATED FATS as this leads to fatty deposits forming inside the arteries
- SMOKING, this increases blood pressure damaging the coronary arteries making them more likely to form fatty deposits
- INACTIVITY, this leads to high blood pressue damaging the arteries makint them more likely to have fatty deposits.
