Circular Motion Flashcards
Can an object maintain constant speed while continually experiencing net acceleration?
Speed is a scalar quantity, and magnitude of velocity is a vector quantity. Acceleration is rate of change of velocity, so acceleration acts to change velocity over time. Since velocity comprises of both magnitude and direction, if we are able to change the direction of velocity without changing its magnitude, an object is able to main constant speed while experiencing net acceleration
Angular displacement
Defined as the angle through which an object turns with respect to center of circular path
Teter=s/r
Where s is arc length
Angular velocity
Rate of change with time of the angular displacement of a radius joining an object to the axis about which it is rotating
Useful formulas:
Ac=mrw^2 or mv^2 /r
V=rw
tan(0)=v^2 /rg
