Circular Motion Flashcards
What is a radian?
It is the angle subtended at the centre of the circle by an arc length that is equal to the radius of the circle
What is the definition of angular displacement?
It is the angle through which an object moves through a circle.
What is the formula for angular displacement?
s = r (thetha)
What is angular velocity?
It is the rate of change of the angular position of an object as it moves in a curved path. (omega) = 2(pi) /T = 2(pi)f
What is the equation relating angular velocity to linear velocity?
v = r(omega)
Why does a body moving in circular motion at a constant speed experience a force?
An object moving in circular motion in a constant speed experiences a change in velocity as it is changing direction and thus experiences an acceleration and force.
What is the definition of centripetal force?
It is the resultant force acting on an object moving in a circle, always directed towards the center of the circle perpendicular to the velocity of the object.
What is the formula for centripetal force?
f = mv^2/r = mr(omega)^2
What is centripetal accelaration?
Is is derived by equating Newton’s second law and centripetal force
