Circuits and The Specific Heat Capacity Practical Flashcards
What is specific heat capacity?
The amount of energy needed to raise 1kg of a substance by 1*C.
What are the environmental advantages of turning off electrical appliances?
There are less fossil fuels burned.
There is less pollutant gas produced.
What is the first step of the specific heat capacity practical?
Place an immersion heater into a hole on the top of the block.
Place a thermometer into the block.
Why are drops of oil put in the hole with the thermometer?
To surround the thermometer with hot material.
What do you do after you record the initial temperature of the block?
Connect the heater to the power supply and turn it off after 10 minutes.
The temperature will rise.
Why is the specific heat capacity practical prone to errors?
Because some energy is always lost to surroundings.
