Circuits Flashcards
What is current?
Current is the flow of electric charge.
I = Q/t
units are A or C/s
What is ohm’s law?
V=IR
What effects resistance?
R = pL/A
Resistance increases with increasing temperatures with most conductors. It is the opposition to the flow of charge
- At any junction within a circuit, the sum of current flowing into that point must equal the sum of the current leaving.
- The sum of voltage sources equalts the sum of voltage drops around a closed-circuit loop.
These are Kirchoff’s Laws
Describe the voltage, current and ressistance in series circuits
Req = R1 + R + R ……
VT = V1 + V2 + V3 + …….
IT = I1 = I2 = I3 = …….
Describe a circuits’voltage, resistance, and currentl in parallel.
1/Req=1/R + 1/R + 1/R …..
VT = V1 + V2 + V3 ……..
I = I1 + I2 + I3 ………
What is the power dissipated by resistors?
P = IV = V2/R = I2R
The ability to store charge per unit voltage.
This is the capacitance.
Giveben C= V
C’ =Kε0A/d
Describe capacitors in parallel:
In parallel they add by Ceq = C1 + C2 + C3 ……
Describe capacitors in series
1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 1/C3
Describe the energy stored in capcacitors via equation
U = 1/2QV
=1/2CV2
=1/2Q2/C
