Circuits Flashcards
Current Definition
the flow of positive charge through a conductor, and is measured in amperes, or amps. It is actually negative charges and NOT positive charges that move through a circuit. (A)
Ohm’s Law
R = V/I
Joule’s Law of Heating
P = IV = I^2R = V^2/R, (W) (joule/second)
Multiple Resistors in Series
Same current across all of them, voltage divides proportionally amongst them, Rtotal = R1 + R2 + R3 +…+ Rn
Resistors in Parallel
1/Rtotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2 +…+ 1/Rn, Vtotal = V1 = V2 = V3
Capacitance Definition
the charge per unit voltage, depends ONLY on the geometry of the plates
Capacitance Equation
C = q/V = A/d, (F) (coulomb/volt)
Empty Capacitors
do not resist the flow of current and thus act like empty wires
Full Capacitors
do not allow current to flow and thus act like broken wires
