Circuits Flashcards
Current electricity
The controlled flow of electrons through a conductor
Electric circuit
Continuous path in which electrons can flow
Static electricity
The uncontrolled path of the electron flow between two objects
How do you make electrons move
Electrons are able to move through a source of electrical energy. Some sources include batteries or wall outlets connected to an electrical generating station
Parts of a circuit
Load, switch, conducting wire, source
Load
The part of an electric circuit that converts electrical energy into other forms of energy
Switch
Add device in an electric circuit that controls the flow of electrons by opening or closing the circuit
Source
- Anything that can cause electric energy
- Anything that can cause the flow of electrons
Conducting wire
Provides a path for the electrons to flow
Kirchoff’s Current law
- In a series circuit current remains the same but voltage is split evenly among the loads
- In a parallel circuit current get split evenly among the branches. Voltage remains the same as the source
How does the brightness of the light bulbs change when connecting one lightbulb in the series compared to two?
The bulbs will get dimmer the more lights you add because the energy has to be distributed between the light supposed to be getting one
What happens to light bulbs is there connected in parallel to the same source
They both have the same brightness they are the same amount of volts as the source
In a series circuit how might the current change
In a series circuit there’s only one path for the electrons to flow therefore no matter where you are and circuit the current is always in the same even if you add more loads to it
In a parallel circuit how might the current change if you add more loads
The I source or total average will just have to be split among that number of branches instead of the number before
Parallel circuits-current
In a parallel circuit electrons have more than one path to follow. In a parallel circuit assuming the loads are the same the current will split evenly among the paths
