The diode is simply :
- closed switch if the voltage is toward I.e. the anode has a higher voltage than the cathode, then the current flows from the anode to the cathode direction
- open switch if the voltage is backward, I.e. the anode has a lower voltage than the cathode then no current flows
E.g. Diodes work as the check valve in water pipe networks
