connotative
an idea associated with a word or image in addition to its explicit (denotative) meaning
frame
single image, smallest unit of film construction
shot
single continuous recording
scene
series of related shots

types of camera movement
tracking, reverse tracking, crane, pan, whip pan, tilt
establishing
a shot used near the beginning of a scene to establish the inter-relationship of details to be shown subsequently in closer shots (sets the location)
master
a shot which covers an entire piece of dramatic action (usually a long shot or wide shot)
cut away
a shot, usually a close up of some detail, or landscape, that is used to break up a matching action sequence
cut in
a shot to cut into a scene usually a close up to show detail
framing
refers to the way a shot is composed and the manner in which subjects and objects are surrounded (framed) by the boundaries or perimeter of the film image
reframing
refers to short panning or tilting movements of the camera to adjust to the characters movements and keep them onscreen, centred and in frame
camera angles
eye level, low angle, high angle, extreme high angle and crane, canted angle, POV
