CI.6 Flashcards
A case study of an industrial process
What are raw materials?
Unprocessed starting materials for industrial chemical process.
What are raw materials turned into?
Feedstocks.
What are feedstocks?
Processed raw materials, that can now be used as reactants for chemical processes.
In what states are feedstocks most easily handled and transported?
Liquid and gas.
How are solids treated for transportation?
They are normally melted into liquids to transport through pipes.
What are co products?
Products formed alongside the desired product during the same reaction.
What are by products?
Products formed alongside the desired product as a product of undesired side reaction taking place.
What are the two types of production costs?
Variable cost and fixed cost.
What is a way of recycling thermal energy?
Collecting energy from exothermic reaction for use to supply to endothermic reactions or to increase temperatures of reactions.
