CI Flashcards
What is the graph of a zero order reaction?
Describe a zero order reaction.
The concentration of this species has no impact on rate.
Shown on a rate-conc graph as a horizontal line.
Rate=k
What does a graph showing a first-order reaction look like?
Describe a first-order reaction?
The concentration of the species and the rate are directly proportional.
Doubling the concentration doubles the rate.
Rate=k[A]
What does the graph of a second-order reaction look like?
Describe a second order reaction
The rate is proportional to the concentration of the species squared.
Doubling the concentration will increase the rate by 4 times.
Rate=k[A]2
What does the concentration-time graph for a zero order reaction look like?
What does the concentration-time graph for a first order reaction look like?
What does the concentration-time graph for a second order reaction look like?
What is the rate of reaction equal to on a concentration-time graph?
The gradient of the curve at a given point. Therefore to work out the gradient a a tangent should be drawn at this given time.
-Drawing a tangent when time=0 finds the initial rate of reaction.
What is usually the unit for rate?
Mol dm-3 s-1
What is the Arrhenius Equation?
How can the Arrhenius equation be arranged to be used in the form y=mx +c?
What does the equation to work out the gradient on the graph form of Arrhenius?
