Chylomicrons Flashcards
Metabolism of chylomicron
Main site : adipose tissue and skeletal muscle
Half life in blood is about 1 hour
The enzyme lipoprotein lipase is located at the endothelial layer of capillaries of adipose tissue, muscle and heart but not in liver
Apo C II present in chylomicron activates the LPL
The LPL hydrolyze triglyceride present in chylomicrons into fatty acids and glycerol
Muscle or adipose tissue cells take up tje liberated fatty acids
Synthesis of chylomicrons
Synthesis in the intestinal mucosal cells and secreted into the lacteals of lymphatic systems
They are rich in triglyceride
When the chylomicrons are synthesized by intestinal mucosal cell contain apo B 48 and apo A but apo C and apo E are added from HDL in blood during transport
Post heparin lipolytic activity
Following injection of heparin the LPL is released from the tissues and lipemia is thus cleared this is called post heparin lipolytic activity
Lack of C II lead to decrease activity of LPL and consequent accumulation of chylomicron and VLDL in blood
Insulin icrease LpL activity
Function of chylomicron
Chylomicrons are the transport form of dietary triglycerides from intestines to the adipose tissue for storage and heart or muscle for their energy needs
