Church Revitalisation (Reconnect Your Church, by David Brown) Flashcards
Book notes
What are the FIVE FACTORS that contribute to church revitalisation?
Chapter 16
- Mission and Vision
- Motivation
- Strategy
- Discipleship
- Networking
Chapter 16
What is the difference between MISSION and VISION?
Chapter 16
MISSION refers to the long-term reason for our existence as a church; the « raison d’être ». What do we intend to DO in relation to our Lord’s redemptive purposes for our corner of the world and respective spheres of influence?
VISION refers to the desired outcome of our endeavor. Where do we hope to be within a defined time scale: next year, in three years, in ten years? The vision of a healthy church, approved by the members, is the foundation of the revitalisation process.
Without vision, the end result will be confusion.
Chapter 16
What is the relationship between vision and MOTIVATION?
Chapter 16
Understanding and accepting the vision (where we hope to be in a given time frame) is essential for motivating church members to work on the action plan and to keep moving forward through the whole revitalisation process.
Without sustained motivation, there will be resistance to the process.
Chapter 16
Why is it important to define a clear and compelling STRATEGY?
Chapter 16
Without a well-defined action plan or strategy, the project will lack direction. Goals, objectives, priorities, roles, action steps and a deadline-based schedule provide concrete orientation toward desired outcomes.
Chapter 16
Where does DISCIPLESHIP fit in?
Chapter 16
The heart of the action plan is discipleship in the social, societal and spiritual areas. This is where the fire of change is fueled.
Without discipleship, what are we doing here anyway?
Chapter 16
What do we mean by NETWORKING?
Chapter 16
This refers to all types of coaching from outside of the church. This may be put in place formally by the denomination with a facilitator and include regular meetings with other leaders of churches involved in revitalisation. Alternatively, it may be a whole range of informal types of encouragement, such as relationships with like-minded people, the support of a healthy church nearby or interaction through social media, visits or conferences.
Without networking, people can become discouraged.
Chapter 16
