Causes

A

Male - BPH

Female

  • Pelvic prolapse
  • Pelvic masses such as fibroids

Neurological:

  • peripheral neuropathy
  • upper motor neurone disease such as Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease

A

Painless urinary retention

Associated voiding LUTS

Overflow incontinence

Nocturnal enuresis

Palpable distended bladder with no tenderness

Catheterisation

TWOC (not if high pressure)
