Chromatography Flashcards
Why is chromatography used
To separate mixtures of substances into their individual components
State the stationary phase for TLC and Column Chromatography, then gas-liquid chromatography
Solid for TLC and column chromatography or liquid for gas liquid for chromatography
Explain the motion of the mixture in the stationary phase compared to motion of the mobile phase
Stationary phase stays still while in the mobile phase the mixture can travel across it
What causes a portion of the mixture to travel slow in the stationary phase
Having an attraction to the stationary phase
State the mobile phase of TLC and Column Chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography
TLC and Column:A liquid
gas-liquid:A gas
Explain the Mobile phase for liquid
The mixture is dissolved in a solvent. This is called a eluent. The mobile phase flows across the stationary phase and carries the components of the mixture with it.
Explain the mobile phase for a gas
