Christy's Cards Flashcards
1
Q
Isoniazid
A
Sx:
AG metabolic acidosis (increased lactate)
Seizures within 1 hr of ingestion - refractory
CNS depression
Lactic acidosis
Chronic OD: Peripheral neuritis Optic neuritis Hepatitis Pancreatitis Decreased pyridoxine (B6)
Tx:
Pyridoxine gram per gram
2
Q
Hydrocarbons
A
Viscosity - how thick
Surface tension - a “surface film” - harder to move an object through the surface
Volatility - how easily a substance can vaporize
Most dangerous for aspiration pneumonitis:
- low viscosity
- low surface tension
- high volatility
3
Q
Ergotamines
A
Mechanism: peripheral vasoconstriction serotoninergic effects
Sx:
- Convulsions - h/a, spasms, miosis, phsychosis, GI
- Gangrene - due to vasoconstriction, decreased peripheral pulse, mottled skin, burning/tingling, tissue necrosis
4
Q
Disulfiram (antabuse)
A
Sx: flushing, tachycardia, diaphoresis, GI, ataxia, lethargy, seizures, HA, CP
Tx: benzos, antiemetics, IVF
- alcohol + flagyl –> disulfiram-like reaction
5
Q
Vitamins
A
Fat soluble:
- A, D, E, K
- Stored in fat cells - don’t need to be replenished every day
- E = anticoagulant effects
- D = hypercalcemia, HTN
- A = GI, hair-loss, dizziness
Water soluble: B, C
- B3 (niacin)
- B6 (pyridoxime)
- B9 (folic acid)
- B12 (cobalamins)
