The German troops and the British soldiers
Why did it happen?
The Germans came outside of their trenches shouting “Merry Christmas” , once the British soldiers realised that the Germans were unarmed they stepped forward and began exchanging Christmas wishes, however the Generals of the armies weren’t happy so this was the first and last time it happened. It wasn’t only about having a good time , some soldiers retrieved their dead mates bodies from the area of no man’s land.
What happened?
German soldiers came out of their trenches unarmed , British soldiers realised it was a truce so they exchanged Christmas wishes , they began singing together and gifts were each changed. And there are speculations that a football match happened.
Consequences
The consequences were that some soldiers were ordered to start fighting again at midnight of December 26th, while others continued the truce until New Year’s Day.
