What is liturgical worship?

A

It is a sett plan every week
Catholic mass every week is the same and has a set ritual that is repeated and never changed. However it is someone different each week reading scriptures from the bible .

A

It is not a set plan every week and they do a different service . They can bless animals in there services .

A

They do it by themselves in private . It can be anywhere and for a number of different reasons .

What is informal worship ?

A

An example of this is gospel . No one knows what is going to happen on the day , if it would be in a church it would be classed as informal implying there is no sett structure to it .

It is a term used for spreading the word by the way of preaching the gospel.

How is the Eucharist performed in a Roman Catholic mass?

A

A priest will come to the front of the church ( only male) and welcome people.
Male or female can read from the bible
Bread and wine will be brought to the front church by a altar boy .
Wine and the bread transforms to being Jesus’s body and his blood.
Doesn’t physically change .
Bread and wine will be offered to the people.

How is the Eucharist performed in a Protestant church?

A

People gather to the front of the church.
Once everyone is seated the vicar reads out the last supper.
The vicar then says special words.
Women and men are allowed to hold the ceremonies.
The altar is the most important thing.
Time of reflection which they believed it had then claimed by God .

How is the Eucharist performed in a Greek Orthodox Church?

A

The homemade bread and wine is made by the priest himself.
The bread is then divided into 4, 3 parts.
While this is taking place the Eucharist prayer blesses the bread and the wine and now it is concentrated.
Only males are allowed to teach it.
Sermon is a teaching he would read out.
It maybe be different every week or not .
Only baptised members take the bread and the wine.

A

It is a journey to a holy site in which you visit for a holy reason. It is an act of worship and devotion.

  • physical journey to a holy place.
  • not compulsory.
  • people feel closer to God.
  • opportunity’s to pray , reflect and to be in a holy place were Jesus was crucified.
  • lots of places for pilgrimage( Lourdes , lona ,Jerusalem) which has religious significance l

Why is Lourdes a place of pilgrimage?

A

It’s a natural place.
Commercialised and you go for healing.
Experienced a vision of Mary telling her to dig to the ground to find a spring . It would have healing properties.
People take part in the procession.

Why is lona a place of pilgrimage?

A

Small island in the west of Scotland.
Less commercialised.
Visit sacred places.
Go for the peace and reflection abbey.
