why is the incarnation important?
- christians believe that Jesus came to earth to enable the relationship between humanity and god to be restored
- gives Christians an example - can’t be like god, but can be like Jesus
- his death saved humanity and atoned for our sins
why is the Trinity important for christians?
- promotes the monotheistic teachings while allowing god to have different qualities
- allows them to connect w god e.g. gifts from the HS
why is the creation story important
it appears in the Bible which is the word of God
it is an important gift from God showing he loves us
it shows gods power
it could describe how God made the universe
sets out the role of humans as stewards of the earth
events of the passion
last supper - ate w/ disciples n predicted 1 would betray him
betrayal+arrest - Judas betrays Jesus, Jesus is arrested in the garden of Gethsemane
crucifixion- jesus is crucified, forgave barrabas
resurrection- jesus is back 3 days later
ascension - jesus ascends into heaven 40 days later
importance of the passion
provides evidence of Jesus’s divine and human status (died and resurrected)
gives hope of life after death
shows the relationship between God and Jesus
Jesus’s death redeemed humanity bcos sacrifice
Eucharist (one of the sacraments) is taken from the last supper + is a tradition at the centre of Christianity today
what is salvation
being saved from sin through belief in Jesus
what is atonement
the idea that humans are reconciled and forgiven by god, and redemption is how Christians believe this can be achieved

different understandings of atonement
Jesus’s death as a divine sacrifice represents god’s love for humanity
Jesus’s death was a sacrifice - an offering to god to mend the broken relationship ( he is free from sin and so is able to take the role of the sacrifice)
Jesus’s death is the victory of good over evil as jesus was used as a ransom to stop the devil having a hold over humanity
Jesus’s death represents the price being paid for the forgiveness of humanity
significance of atonement and salvation
restore the relationship between Jesus and god
confirm belief in an omnipotent loving God
allow humans to understand the importance of being reconciled with other humans
give humans hope that they can follow the example of Jesus to be rewarded in the eternal afterlife
beliefs about resurrection
they believe that death is not the end and that the resurrection of Jesus proves life after death
beliefs about the soul
death is only the end of the body - the soul is immortal
souls that have been saved either go to heaven or to purgatory ( catholicism) where they are cleansed
souls that have not achieved salvation will go to hell or cease to exist
belief about judgement
god is just
god will decide the destination of every human soul after death
Jesus is also involved in the judgement and will offer every human the opportunity of salvation, those who refuse face the last judgement

if god is all loving he would want to remove all evil and suffering

book of Psalms - give people the opportunity to follow the example set by Jesus
job - they may not understand why they suffer, but need to trust in God and will be rewarded for doing so
free will - humans sometimes turn away from God (explains many acts of moral evil)

prayer - god will give them strength to cope with the problems
purpose of marriage
provide companionship enjoy a moral sexual relationship raise a family make a lifelong commitment to another person provide stability

vows are made to between the couple and god showing it is sacred and binding

provides security and a stable environment for kids to grow up in
not essential - some Christians believe they gave a vocation and will become a nun/monk/priest etc.
beliefs about sexual relationships
casual relationships are wrong - marriage is the place for sex
adultery is forbidden and faithfulness is spoken in vows
homosexual acts are shameful
abstinence is advised before marriage
!!!some Christians believe some ideas are outdated and believe that love should be celebrated in whatever form it occurs, allowing them to accept cohabitation, homosexuality etc.
importance and purpose of family
provide the right place for married couples to have kids
provides stability and security for society as kids can be raised in the correct social and moral setting
teach children the difference between right and wrong
raise kids as Christians
what God intended
provides a support network between parent and child
