Q

Describe Christian belief about Jesus as an incarnation. (4 marks)

A

One Christian belief about Jesus as an incarnation is the idea that God had entered the human realm in the form of Jesus. This means that Jesus taught people about God so that he could create the Kingdom of God on earth. For example, Jesus taught people to love their friends and enemies through Luke 10. Another Christian belief about Jesus as an incarnation is that Jesus was seen to have dual nature - both human and divine nature. For example, Jesus suffered a painful and humiliating death which shows that he had human nature and after Jesus died, he rose again with his resurrection lasting for 40 days which shows his divine nature.

Q

Explain what Christians believe about heaven and hell. (6 marks )

A

Christians believe that heaven is a place where the souls of the righteous go in the afterlife. Many Christians see it as a kind of physical existence after resurrection with a new ‘resurrection body’. This means people who have followed and been loyal to God will be rewarded with Heaven. For example, in The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25) , the sheep represent righteous people who have done their best to follow God’s will, they get into heaven during judgement for eternity as a reward for listening to the teachings of Jesus.

Christians believe that Hell is the absence of God and Jesus. This means that souls that go to Hell won’t get to experience God and Jesus. Many Christians also believe that Hell is a place of fire and torture where people face the consequences of their sins on earth. An example is from Luke 16:19-31 where a rich man is sent to heaven as he suffered his whole life whilst still believing in God. Whereas the rich man was a horrible person who treated everyone and everything badly so he was sent to Hell after he had died. This means that he has to suffer and endure lots of pain as he was unrighteous and a sinful person.

Q

Describe two of Jesus’ teachings. (4 marks)

A

One of Jesus’ teachings was the parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25. This means that he told them that on Judgement day, God will be more concerned about how people have chosen to live their life than if they were religious. This also means that it will make people think twice about committing a sin if they want God to see them as righteous and be able to get into Heaven. Another teaching of Jesus was that we should love everyone. This means that we should try our best to love our enemies as we love our friends, even though it is difficult. For example, in Luke 10 it says to “love thy neighbour”. This further means that a Christian will try to love everyone even if the person isn’t kind to them as they believe it is what God wants for them.

Q

Describe how Christians follow one of Jesus’ teachings. (4 marks)

A

One way Christians can follow Jesus’ teaching of loving each other is through their actions. This means that because Jesus taught his followers that he was concerned with society’s outcasts, Christians may try to follow this by helping the poor and needy. They may also just do individual acts of kindness such as giving food to a homeless person or supporting a charity.

Another way they can follow Jesus’ teaching of loving everyone is forgiving their enemies. This means that because Jesus taught his followers that it wasn’t enough to love your friends and that you need to love your enemies too. Christians may become pacifist and reject all violence and help people feel valued and reformed. This could be based on if they like them or not.

18
Q

Why do Christians follow Jesus’ teachings? (6 marks)

A
19
Q

Explain how free will and judgement are connected. (4 marks)

A

To have free will means that people can amke a choice between alternatives. This means that they are responsible for their own actions and have to take full responsibility for their choices/ actions. An example of free will and judgement being connected is in the story of Adam and Eve, they made the decision to eat the forbidden fruit which resulted in God having to judge them to decide their punishment. We are judged on the choices that we make. Judgement can be decided through someone choosing to have a good life and following God or having a bad life by ignoring all faith in God. Free will is a must for judgement to happen as peoples actions are where they are truly responsible for their decisions. Christians follow the Bible as there are guidelines that they believe will help them to live a good life and determine if they get into heaven or not depending on how they use their free will.

Q

Describe the main points of Jesus’ resurrection. (5 marks)

A

One main point of Jesus’ resurrection is that it was a sign of Gods great power. This means that it showed Christians that there was a God. Therefore they could believe in Him and could find comfort/ encouragement when they are experiencing difficulty.

Another key point is that Jesus died on behalf of all peoples sins so that God could forgive them. This means that everything that had happened during the fall could be fixed because jesus was the saviour of the world.

A final key point of Jesus’ resurrection is that Christians now live through God’s laws. This means that now their relationship with God is repaired, they can say prayers and worship Him.

“It is essential for Christians to believe in the resurrection of Jesus.” How far do you agree? Give reasons for your answer. (8 marks)

Q

Describe the main points of the story of Jesus’ death. (6 marks)

A

One of the main points of Jesus’ death was that he was crucified between two thieves. However, Jesus was completely innocent whereas the thieves weren’t . Jesus even tried to pray to God for their forgiveness. It shows that people saw Jesus as a criminal even after he had performed all of the miracles and helped many people.

Another point is that when Jesus was about to die he said “My God, My God, why have you abandoned me.” This means that Jesus may have felt betrayed by God and spiritual suffering.

Another main point of Jesus’ death is that there was a period of darkness for three hours and then Jesus died.

Another point is that when Jesus died, the curtain in a temple was torn into two from the top to bottom, then an earthquake happens which resurrects Christians who have died.

Another point is that the spectators watching Jesus on the cross then start to believe that Jesus was sent by God as they said “surely this man was the son of God.”

A final point is that Jesus’ body was placed in a tomb, dead, on a Saturday. Then on the Sunday, Jesus was resurrected§ from the dead which is why it is known as Easter Sunday. These quotes are found in Matthew 27 and Luke 10.

23
Q

How might belief about the Incarnation affect the life of Christians? (4 marks)

A

One way the belief about Incarnation can affect the life of Christians is that they would worship Jesus as God. This means that they would know that they can ask for his help and use his guidance in their life. This can help them to be able to live a more righteous life. Another way the belief about incarnation can affect a Christians life is by celebrating Christmas. This is because it celebrates God coming into the world in the form of Jesus. This can strengthen the relationship of humans and God as they can believe in Him and worship Him.

24
Q

Explain why Christians worship. (5 marks)

A

One reason why Christians worship is because it acknowledges that God is greater than them and that he is the creator and that he is the sustainer. This is important to them because through prayer they may learn new things about the qualities of God. A source that supports this is when Jesus prayed in praise to God, (so Christians would want to follow his ways to be accepted into heaven) when it says in Luke 10:21, “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said ‘ i promise you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth’”.

Another reason why Christians worship is that it connects followers with God and helps them to understand him better. This is important to them becasue if Christians have a good relationship with God, they are less likely to commit sins so that once they die and they are being judged, God will see them as righteous and let them into heaven. A source that supports this is The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats in Matthew 25:31-46. This is when the sheep represent righteous people who have done their best to follow Gods will and the unrighteous are the goats that represent people who have sinned and rejected all belief in God so they get sent to Hell.

Q

What do Christians mean by heaven? (4 marks)

A

Christians believe that heaven is a state where they can be united with God. They see that heaven is a physical existence after resurrection with a new ‘resurrection body’. This is where righteous souls go in the after life if they have followed God. Christians also believe that heaven is where jesus and God can be found. They believe heaven isn’t a physical place, more like a state or condition. This means their relationship with God can become stronger as they will no longer be alienated from God after The Fall. A final belief is if they have lived a good Christian life then they will be rewarded with going to Heaven.

30
Q

Describe one teaching of Jesus. (3 marks)

A

Jesus taught many people the Bible verse Luke 10. Jesus had taught that everyone should “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” and to “Love thy neighbour as you love yourself.” Jesus then taught people the story of the Good Samaritan which shows how the people you would expect to help you probably won’t and a person who you would never expect to help chose to. Jesus was trying to get people to love each other as Jesus had loved them.
