Christian Literalist - Origins Of Life Flashcards

1
Q

Christian Literalist - KU

A
  • Literalist Christians believe that Genesis 2 is literally true.
  • Life was created by God exactly as it says in Genesis, Chapter 2
  • God lifted the dust o the ground and formed Adam in His image, breathing the breath of life into his nostrils
  • When it came to Eve, God put Adam to sleep and removed one of his ribs and with the rib God created Eve
  • Literalist Christians believe that God created life according to its kind, the wild animals, livestock, birds, sea creatures and human beings are all specific ‘kinds’ of life created by God.
  • It is because of this that there is no room for evolutionary theory.

Q

Christian Literalist - Analysis

A
  • Arguably this shows Literalist Christians would reject all scientific theories of the origins of life as they would only believe what is in the Bible, such as God created Eve form the rib of Adam and therefore evolution would not be part of their beliefs

Q

Christian Literalist - Quote

A

‘ Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life’.

This quote implies that humans did not evolve to live on earth but in fact God created them from the origins of Adam and Eve, God gave us all the breath of life just as he did to Adam

Q

Christian Literalist - Strengths

A
  • Th story from Genesis 2 is a literal interpretation of the text, what you read is what you get, so it is very straightforward to understand
  • The story will not change. Literalist Christians will always know where they stand as the text has and will always remain the same

Q

Christian Literalist - weaknesses

A
  • Many believe the evidence for evolution, showing adaption from a common ancestor disproves the possibility that God could have individually created each kind of life we find on earth
  • The age of fossils are inconsistent with the Literalist Christian view of a young earth. Palaeontologist have dated fossils they have found at more than 3 billion years old; this is much older than the 6-10000 years many Literalist Christians believe as the starting point of Gods creative work
-Literalist Christians are depriving themselves of many current and future explanations of the origins of the Universe by excluding things that are not in the text

Q

Christian Literalist - Evaluation

A
  • I agree with the Literalist Christian view to an extent as the creation of life would be very easy to understand as you only need to read the scripture to discover how life was created
  • I disagree with the Literalist Christian View to an extent as literalist Christian’s are depriving themselves of many current and further explantations of the origins of the universe by excluding things that are to in the text
