The action of making amends for wrong doing
What is baptism?
A ceremony to welcome a person into the Christian religion
What is crucifixion?
A capital punishment used by the romans which nail a person to a cross to kill them
What denomination?
The name for the different branches of the Christian church
What is fundamentalist?
Christians who take the Bible literally
What is gospel?
The names of the books about the life of Jesus in the bible : Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
What is grace?
Unconditional love that god shows to people who don’t deserve it
What is historic truth?
Facts about historical events, usually from evidence
What incarnation?
God in human form, god made flesh
What is imminence?
The idea that god is in the world and knowable
What is inconsistent triad?
Concept developed by JL Mackie to show that god cannot be both all loving and all powerful due to the existence of evil
What irenaeus?
Stated the god created the best of all possible worlds to enable humans to develop empathy and love for each other by learning from suffering
What is Lord’s Prayer?
The prayer Jesus taught his disciples to show them how pray
What is messiah?
The anointed one who is seen as the saviour by Christians
What are miracles?
Events that have no scientific explanation for them happening; these were performed by Jesus and described in the Gospels
What is mission?
An organised effort to spread the Christian message
What is moral evil?
Evil that is caused by human action
What is natural evil?
Evil that is caused by nature but directly impacts on humanity
What is nicene creed?
A statement of belief used in Christian services
What is omnibenevolent?
The idea that god is all-loving
What is omniscient?
The idea that god is all-knowing
What is omnipotent?
The idea that god is all-powerful
What is omnipresent?
The idea that god is present everywhere
What is oneness of god?
The idea that god is ‘one’
What is orthodox?
A branch of the Christian church, largely found in Greece and Russia
What is penitence?
To feel regret for someone’s sins
What is Protestant?
A branch of the Christian church that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church
What is reconciliation?
The process of making people in conflict friendly again
What is religious truth?
Knowledge gained through interpretation of religious texts, rather than taking them literally
What is resurrection?
The physical return of Jesus on the third day after he died
What is Roman Catholic?
The largest Christian group, based in Rome with the pope as its leader
What is salvation?
The saving of the soul from sin
What is Sanhedrin?
The ruling council of Jews in Israel
What is secular?
Relating to worldly as opposed to religious things
What is St Augustine?
Stated that god created the best of all possible worlds but it was human sin and misuse of free will that led to the fall and the existence of evil
What is St Paul?
A man who taught the teachings of Jesus - originally Saul of Tarsus before his conversion
What is transcendence?
The idea that god is beyond the world and unknowable

The belief in God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit
