Term used to describe gods unconditional love for everyone whether or not they have behaved how he wants them to

A

salvation does not need to be earned through good works but by believing in god and his son
“by grace you have been saved through faith, not by works”

How do traditional beliefs of afterlife differ to nowadays?

A

Traditionally christians believed that Heaven and Hell were physical places. Nowadays some Christians believe that heaven and hell are not physical places but states of mind e.g. heaven may be a state of unending happiness

What are the 2 types of judgement?

A

Personal judgment - some christian’s believe that peoples souls are judged by god as soon as their body dies and are sent straight to either heaven or hell

Last judgement - some Christians believe that peoples souls will be judged at the last judgement at the end of time. souls must wait till the day of judgement when they will all be judged together

due to different interpretations of the Bible
- Some Christians understand the words literally
- some interpret them as metaphor or symbols or myths

hell is the opposite of heaven it is eternity in the absence of God the Bible depicts hell as a place of suffering and pain hell is rarely mentioned in the Bible

A

many Christians reject literal interpretations of hell as they believe the idea of it was to frighten people into following the rules of the church. How would also contradict gods Omni benevolent nature. Instead they believe people will be offered an opportunity to pay back for their sin.

A rich man ignored a poor beggar at his gate named Lazarus who was starving and covered in sores. When both men died, Lazarus went to heaven and the rich man to hell.

A

The RCC teaches that there is a place where sins are punished and a soul is purified before it can go to heaven this is called Purgatory
