What is a dependent

A

A dependent is anyone who relies on another for support. For tax purposes, independent must usually be a relative and, except for Esposa common-law partner children or grandchildren, must be residents in Canada

A

Also, no one else in the dwelling can claim the amount for the eligible dependant.
