- Blood changes
(increase in number of platelets and abnormal RBCs) - Infection
Increased risk of bacterial septicemia
Especially in children with strep pneumo - Liver (some in bone marrow too) takes of blood filtration
Starts in ~2 hrs and fully functioning in ~24 hrs
Macrophage numbers increase greatly
