Chpt 1 & 2 Flashcards
Levels of organization, simple to complex
Molecular/chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
Organization
All organisms have structure/order
Metabolism
Some of all chemical processes
Growth and development
Organisms adapt to environment/grow and develop
Differentiation
Cell goes from unspecialized to specialized
Responsiveness
Detect and respond to changes. I.e decrease in body temp, Electrical signals and contracting (muscles)
Regulation
Homeostasis: internal adjustment to external changes
Reproduction
Production of new cells or maintenance/ repair
Mechanisms of regulation
Intrinsic: automatic response to environmental change in cell/organ/tissue
Extrinsic: response controlled by nervous and endocrine systems
Receptor
Receives stimulus
Control center
Interprets input from receptor and initiates change through effector
Effector
Receives output from control center and produces a response
