Rituals
A ritual is a sequence of activities in a set sequence
Religious ritual
A religious ritual is a ceremony of a series of actions performed according to a set order and have a religious and symbolic value
Symbol
A symbol can be a picture an image or an object that represents something such as an idea or an organisation
Sacred space
A sacred space is this place that allows a person to focus on something that is important to them they are considered sacred or holy.
Place of worship
A place of worship is a building a place where people can go to pray and worship the divine
Rights of passage
A right of passage is an important moment in peoples life they can be religious and non-religious

Water, oil, white garment and candle
What does water represent
The belief that water will wash away original sin, it also signifies a baby’s new identity as a member of the Christian community

Chatechumens before baptism and chrism after baptism

Strength
What does chrism symbolise
That they have now been chosen to serve god
Candle
The the baptismal candle is lit from the pastoral candle by the parents. This expresses the belief that the baby now represents a new life in Christ. The paschal candle represents the light of the world
White garment
A baby is wrapped in a white garment during baptism. This symbolises being closed in Jesus the white symbolises purity and innocent.
