Chp 6-DNA Flashcards
DNA is the basis of ——-
Inheritance
What does DNA determine ?
Our identity and relationships with others
DNA is a molecule that determines the—– and—-of living things
the shape and structure
The building blocks of DNA are called…..
Nucleotides
Nucleotides are made of three parts. What are they ?
A phosphate, a sugar and a base
What are the types of bases ? And which sticks to which?
Adenine-Thymine,Cytosine-Guanine
What is the phosphate and the sugar of a DNA called ?
The backbone
How is a DNA molecule formed ?
The phosphate and the sugar of a nucleotide jon with other nucleotides and form long chains. Two of these chains form a DNA molecule held by bases.
How does DNA replication happen ?
1-Helicase enzymes unzip and unwind the strand of DNA and break through the hydrogen bonds
2-Polymerase enzymes build up the DNA from 5’ to 3’ direction
3-Primase helps Polymerase to get started
4-Finally Ligase helps to glue the okazaki fragments
Which stage does DNA replication happen in ?
Interphase
