Chp 6-Asexual reproduction Flashcards
What happens in asexual reproduction ?
There are no gametes and fertilization involved, instead, cells undergo mitosis
What is the result of the offsprings in an asexual reproduction ?
There will be identically and genetically related offsprings
What organisms undergo asexual reproduction ?
Single-celled organisms usually, like yeast cell
How is mitosis used in our body ?
For growth, repair and replace worn out cells.
After interphase we would have——–and after mitosis——-
Sister chromatids,Daughter chromosomes
What are the stages of mitosis ? Explain each one of them
1)Prophase : In this stage, the nucleus breaks down, the chromosome get condensed (Fatter and shorter) so that they can move around. A series of protein fibers(Spindle) form and get attached to the centromere of each chromosome.
2)Metaphase : The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
3)Anaphase : The spindle fibers move to the opposite sides of the cell and pull the chromosome
4)Telophase : Nucleases start to form ,the cytoplasm divides into two cytokinesis and two identically and genetically related cells will be produced
