Chp 5 - Quality Assurance Flashcards
What does a doppler phantom evalutate?
flow direction, depth/penetrability, accuracy of SV locations, measured velocity
How often should ultrasound equipment be tested
annually - AIUM
What is testing of the dead zone and what could show something is wrong?
testing the ability of reflectors to be imaged accurately in the first cm of the sound bead - if the dead beam shifts deeper then something could be wrong
What do calibration test objects evaluate?
the measurement accuracy of the machine
What was the AIUM test objects
acrylic tank with fluid that simulated the speed of sound in soft tissue (attenuation properties were not simulated though)
What does the tissue equivalent phantom test for?
accuracy and grayscale imaging
attenuates like sound and same speed of sound
What is the tissue equivalent phantom made of?
gel and graphite
What is the doppler testing phantom made of?
a physical moving structure
How does a slice thickness phantom show if there is a problem?
if the sound beam is too thick echoes will appear inside cystic or fluid filled sructures
Comprehensive preventative maintenance must be performed at least:
semiannually
Can the AIUM evaluate contrast res?
no
What does vertical depth collaboration test evaluate?
evaluates the depth of reflectors from the trasnducer
What are the credential granting organizations?
ARDMS, ARRT (american registry of radiographic technologists), CCI
What are the accrediting agencies?
ACR, AIUM, ICAEL, ICAVL
