Delegated power

Inherent powers:
powers given to the national government because its a government of a sovereign state few in number
Concurrent power
Powers that the states and national government share
Reserved powers.

Exclusive powers
Powers given exclusively to the federal government not states
Supremacy clause
Resolves conflicts between the 2 levels of government by setting up a ladder of laws
Dual federalism
178-1937 government power was strictly divided by the states and national government was small
Cooperative federalism
1937-today established social programs to assist states with regulations national government became very large
Full faith and credit clause
States must recognize the validity of records documents and civil court decisions in other stated
Privileges and immunities clause
States cannot draw unreasonable distinctions between their own residents and residents of other states
Extradition
The legal process by which fugitive from justice in one states is returned to that state
Enabling act
A congressional act directing the people of a United States territory to frame a proposed state constitution as a step towards admission to the union
