Citizens
Children who’s parents are born in Athens.
Metics
Residents of Athens who were born outside the city-state. Not allowed to own land, could not become citizens.
Slaves
Owned either by the city-state or private Athenians. Could not become citizens.
Boys in Athens
Went to school, got proper education, learned reading and writing, and did sports.
Girls in Athens
Educated by their mothers, learned sewing and childcare, and household skills.
Primary sources
Objects or writings created by people in a certain time.
The Assembly
Would meet at a large area called Pnyx, and would vote and make decisions.
Council 500
The full-time Athenian government, positions were chosen in a lottery.
Magistrate
A citizen or officer of the court.
Defendant
Person who is accused of a crime in court.
Plaintiff
Person who brings the complaint to court.
Agora
Large and open area in the center of the city
