Define a group
A group is two or more people who have a common goal and who interact and influence each other. There are many ways in which this influence may occur
When is a person said to hold power over another?
A person is said to have power over another if there is a reasonable expectation that the second person will behave in the way the first person desires, even against the second person’s own wishes
What are the six sources of power?
Reward power, Coercive power, Information power, Legitimate power, Expert power and Referent power
Define Reward power
Ability to provide a desired response
Define coercive power
Ability to provide an unpleasant response
Define information power
Having knowledge that others desire
Define legitimate power
Power is given by a higher authority and may be due to role or position
Define expert power
Power is due to skills and depth of knowledge
Define Referent power
Power from others desire to to relate to the person
What is peer pressure?
Influence from a member of one’s peer group
