DSM IV
A psychological disorder characterized by a vague, generalized apprehension or feeling that one is in danger.
Anxiety
An anxiety disorder in which a person is continually tense, apprehensive, and cannot identify the source of the tension.
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
An anxiety disorder marked by an intense and irrational fear of a particular object or situation.
Phobic disorder
Fear of a specific object
Specific
A fear or avoidance of situations in which escape might be difficult or help unavailable when panic strikes.
Agoraphobia
An intense fear of being scrutinized by others.
Social
An anxiety disorder that manifests itself in the form of panic attacks.
Panic disorder
An anxiety disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive thoughts and/or irrational actions.
OCD
An anxiety disorder in which victims of traumatic events experience the original event in the form of dreams or flashbacks.
PTSD
Disorder where there are physical symptoms for which there is no apparent physical cause.
Somatoform disorder
Changing emotional difficulties into a loss of specific voluntary body function.
Conversion disorder
A disorder in which a person who is in good health becomes preoccupied with imaginary ailments.
Hypochondriasis
A disorder in which a person experiences alterations in memory, identity, or consciousness.
