Chp 10-Muscle Tension, Isotonic & Isometric contractions Flashcards
Isotonic & Isometric Contractions
1
Q
Muscle Tension
A
muscle force exerted on object, e.g., muscle of hand holding a 30 lb ball above the head
2
Q
Isotonic contraction
A
tension develops & the object or load is moved - E.g., adult successfully lifted the ball over their head; weightlifting (when can’t move anymore weights=isometric)
3
Q
Isometric contraction
A
tension develops but the object doesn’t move - E.g., a 3 year old tries to lift the ball but can’t; like holding a yoga post
Note: myofilaments try to slide but can’t
4
Q
Muscle Tone
A
continuous partial contractions
note: body is in constant readiness for movement
