Ethnobotany

Phytotherapy
Is a part of pharmacognosy that is concerned with the clinical use of crude drug extracts or partiallypurified mixtures from plants. Also can be referred area dealing with scientific studies of
bioactivities of plant- based medicines as well as their clinical use.
Medicinal Plant
Are either wild or cultivated plants used for the management and treatment of ailments. a plant issaid to be medicinal when “ at least one part has therapeutic properties”
Extraction
A way of separating the desired substance(s) from a mixture using a suitable solvent in which the desired substance is soluble. Used to separate compounds based upon their different solubility in two immiscible solvents.
Primary Metabolite
those compounds which occur in all cells and play a central role in the metabolism and reproductionof those cells. These compounds include the nucleic acids and the common amino acids and sugars.
Secondary Metabolite
Plants produce a vast and diverse assortment of organic compounds, the great majority of which do not appear to participate directly in growth and development.
