Abstraction
the process of altering or reducing the realistic appearance of the original inspiration while maintaining the essence of the idea. May range from representational to symbolic.
Accumulation
New movements are added to the existing movements in a successive manner (e.g. - 12, 123, 1234)
Augmentation
Making the movement larger
Distortion
A process which manipulates the shape or structure of the motif or phrase.
Embellishment
adding detail to the movement such as a hand or head move
Insertion
adding new material to the movement.
Inversion
a process for manipulating a motif or phrase where the position of the body is reversed as the movement is performed, for example upside down or reversed laterally
Rearrangement
Movement is taken apart and reorganised into the desired order to create progression.
Repetition
A movement motif or phrase repeated exactly the same, creating emphasis and helps to consolidate the image in the viewers mind and strengthen or clarify the intent.
Retrograde
a motif or phrase performed backwards, like rewinding a video.
