Cholinergic transmission Flashcards
1
Q
What are the sites of Acetylcholine action?
A
- all preganglionic neurons
- post-ganglionic neurons in the parasympathetic system
2
Q
What does the release of Acetylcholine achieve?
A
Stimulates secretion of adrenaline from the adrenal medulla(no ganglion)
3
Q
Describe the synthesis, storage and release of Ach?
A
- ACh leaves the presynaptic vesicle at the synapse.
- Then AChE-acetylcholinesterase converts ACh into choline.
- There is a reuptake of choline into the presynaptic terminal.
- There choline combines with Acetyl CoA to reproduce ACh again.
4
Q
What is the name of the enzyme which converts Acetyl CoA and choline into ACh?
A
ChAT
5
Q
What is the rate-limiting step in the transmission signalling of Ach?
A
The conversion of Ach to choline
6
Q
Which receptors work to inhibit further release of Ach?
A
Presynaptic muscarinic receptors
7
Q
Which receptors work to facilitate further release of ACh?
A
Presynaptic nicotinic receptors
